Peoplehood Education in Israel Conference
The Center for Jewish and Democratic Education at Haifa University held on 8/1/2019 a conference on Peoplehood Education in Israel. Participants were researchers and practitioners representing organizations that focus on this topic such as the Center for Peoplehood education, the Department of Jewish-Israeli Culture at the Ministry of Education, the Jewish Agency, Beit Hatefutsot, the Reut institute, Hillel Israel, HUC and Melton Center, the Youth Movements Council, UJA-Federation of New York and others. Prof. Hanan Alexander, Dr. Shlomi Ravid and Dr. Ezra Kopelowitz lectured at the conference. In addition, one session was dedicated to presenting new initiatives in Peoplehood Education in Israel, and another to explore the needs of the field and collaboration opportunities.
The topic of Jewish Peoplehood that focuses on the collective dimension of Judaism, the Jewish ethos and relationships among world Jews, has become central to the current Jewish educational conversation, not the least of it because the crisis in the relations between American Jewry and Israel. The conference also addressed the role of Academia in wrestling with the current challenges facing the Jewish people.
כנס חינוך לעמיות יהודית
המרכז לחינוך יהודי ודמוקרטי באוניברסיטת חיפה קיים כנס חינוך לעמיות יהודית ב 8.1.19 , בכנס השתתפו חוקרים ואנשי מקצוע המשתייכים לארגונים שונים העוסקים בתחום ובהם המרכז לחינוך לעמיות, אגף תרבות יהודית-ישראלית במשרד החינוך, הסוכנות היהודית, בית התפוצות, מכון ראות, הלל ישראל, היברו יוניון קולג' ומרכז מלטון, מועצת תנועות הנוער, הפדרציה היהודית של ניו יורק ועוד. בכנס הרצו פרופ' חנן אלכסנדר, ד"ר שלומי רביד וד"ר עזרא קופולוביץ. בנוסף, התקיימו פנלים שהוקדשו להצגת יוזמות חינוכיות בתחום העמיות היהודית, לחשיבה על מסגרות מושגיות משותפות וליצירת פלטפורמות לשיתופי פעולה.
תחום העמיות המתמקד במימד הקולקטיבי של היהדות, באתוס היהודי ובזיקות שבין יהודי העולם, עלה לאחרונה על סדר היום של המערכת החינוכית בישראל ובתפוצות במיוחד בשל המשבר ביחסים שבין ישראל ויהודי ארה"ב. בכנס נבחן גם מקומה של האקדמיה בהתמודדות עם האתגרים שלפתחו של העם היהודי.
